Shower Food Favorite: Baked Brie

BakedBrieAs I’ve mentioned before, one of the most important parts of planning a memorable shower, in my opinion, is creating the menu. This week, I’m sharing one of my family’s very favorite shower recipes: Baked Brie.

This dish is equally at home on a buffet table filled with hors d’oeuvres or alongside a main dish. It’s a little salty, a little sweet, perfect with both fruit and crackers, or absolutely delicious all by itself. Enjoy!

Baked Brie

1 large sheet of puff pastry or 1 tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 round or wedge of Brie cheese (it will have a white rind on it—you DO NOT have to remove this)
Sweet jam (Raspberry is good, as is apple butter)
¼ cup maple syrup
Brown sugar, if desired

Preheat your oven to 350º F. On a parchment-lined (or greased) baking sheet, lay out the puff pastry or crescent rolls. Place the brie round or wedge in the middle of the pastry. Spread your jam right on top of the Brie, and fold the pastry up over the top, cutting away any extra overhanging dough. (The cheese should be fully covered, however.) Drizzle the top of the dough with maple syrup, and, if you like a little extra sweetness, place a handful of brown sugar on top. Bake the cheese at 350º F for 25-35 minutes, or until the pastry is cooked through. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve (with a knife) alongside crackers and apple slices. Grapes are good too.

If you’re serving this dish at a baby shower, be certain to purchase pasteurized Brie. Many pregnant woman opt not to eat unpasteurized soft cheeses due to health risks. Be mindful of your honoree, and if you’re uncertain, ask!
