Confessions of a Party Pooper

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

If someone would have told me two years ago that my new career would involve helping people plan baby and bridal showers, I would have laughed out loud.  No, that is not entirely accurate.  Loud, snort-out-of-my nose kind of laughing would more accurately describe my reaction.  Why?  Because hosting a baby or bridal shower sounds like sheer torture; something to be avoided at all cost.  Let all of those Martha Stewart wannabees have the title of hostess hero but just leave me out of it.  Please.  I am an official Party Pooper.  Can you relate to my dilemma?  Does the thought of throwing a civilized, well planned party cause you to break out in a cold sweat?  Well, I am here to say that you are not alone.  And we need to stand sneaker toe to sneaker toe in solidarity; unified in the knowledge that not everyone is cut out for the event planner lifestyle.  In the coming weeks, I hope you will join me as I take a journey into the party planning underworld.  You see, my youngest son is graduating from college soon and a big party is in order.  I didn’t throw him a high school graduation party (something about breaking his curfew that sort of put a damper on the occasion –uggggh – kids!).  Now that he will soon be assuming the identity of a productive, college graduate, it’s time to celebrate.  I realize that I have all of the great party supplies at my disposal since I work for the ultimate party supply company, but the thing I need the most is the support of other unofficial party poopers like me.   Comments and suggestions from real women with real issues will go a long way to help me get through this whole party planning process without losing my sanity.  Hopefully it’s not too late!
