Savor the Favor!

Even the simplest of baby showers can rack up a pile of details. What starts out as a relaxed get-together with a few friends can quickly turn into an event that rivals a U.S. presidential campaign in complexity. But if there’s one detail you shouldn’t overlook, it’s baby shower favors.

Unless they’re rude and ungracious on a cosmic level, your guests shouldn’t expect anything other than a good time from your baby shower. So, offering baby shower favors isn’t about what’s expected of you. It’s about your appreciation for them. It’s about making sure your guests know how grateful you feel. After all, there’s a reason these people are on your guest list—as opposed to, say, the mother-to-be’s old college roommate who kept borrowing all her underwear. Or the father-to-be’s ex-girlfriend. These are the people with whom you’ve chosen to share a very special celebration—these are the true friends and family you hope will be a part of Baby’s new life. And great baby shower favors (more so than terrific food or fun games) can drive this home.

SimplyBabyStuff.com offers an HUGE variety of baby shower favors, from traditional items like personalized candy bars or candles to unique gifts like sweet little purses and baby footprint cookie cutters. You’ll be hard-pressed not to find a favor that makes your guests feel like the special people they are.

Do It Yourself Baby Shower Favors

Monday, June 28th, 2010

There are so many great ideas out there for baby shower favors. It just makes sense if you are on a budget to make your own and it can be a lot of fun as well! One my favorites homemade favors out there is the candy pacifiers. These are easy to make and they are adorable. People will be sure to comment on how cute they are and they cost nearly nothing to make! You need to get the big white lifesavers and colored jellybeans. You put 1 life save on top of the other lifesaver in a “T” formation and then you glue them together and let them dry. Then you glue the jellybean on the top of the “T” in the top lifesaver (that is the pacifier part). To dress it up a big get some pink and blue ribbon and put it through the hole of the other lifesaver. This makes for a great favor!

Now of course you do not want to use Elmer’s glue…you need to make some edible glue…icing. This is very easy to make and it great for other edible homemade projects that need that “glue” to stick things together. You are going to need an egg and powdered sugar.

You are going to blend together 2/3 cup of the powdered sugar with an egg white in a bowl. Microwave this for 45 seconds. This will actually help to kill off any bacteria because of the egg so that it will be edible. After you do this add another 2/3 cup of powdered sugar and whip it on high until is has a peak and has that nice thick and pasty texture that you need to stick things together. Add powdered sugar to make it thicker or water to make it thinner until you get it just right.

Remember, if you decide to make baby shower favors you will need to get quality supplies. Many online stores, such a SimplyBabyStuff.comFeature Articles, have ‘do it yourself’ supplies you can order. This makes the process so much easier! You can make 30 of them in a matter of minutes. The longest part is just the waiting of the glue to harden on the lifesavers. And they are quite delicious. Just make sure that you do not get jellybeans that taste bad. You are going to want to spring for the good tasting quality jellybeans for this project. This also makes for a great homemade project with children as well. Just be sure to wash your hands well and were gloves when handling the candy to make it more sanitary.

The Best Party Favor You Can Ever Think Of

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Sometimes, party favors can get a bit, I don’t know, redundant. Remember when you were a kid and you would go to four or five birthday parties a year and each one would have the same lame party favors? Chances are, the unused favors would usually end up either in the trash or put away in some drawer to not see the light of day until the next spring cleaning.

Now that we are all grown up, party favors have gotten a bit more grown up, but at the same time, just as redundant. Whether they are baby shower favors or wedding favors they all seem to follow the same type of pattern: lotions, mints and bubble bath. I can honestly say, outside of possibly the mints if I find them at the bottom of my purse a few weeks later, that I have never used any of them. I don’t take bubble baths, and the lotions usually end up going away in my lotion drawer.

I’ve come to the realization lately that the only way to make sure that your party favors are used is to make them edible. That’s right, food. Or, more specifically, candy. Everyone likes candy and everyone eats candy, especially your friends who lie to you and say that they never touch the stuff (they are the worst offenders, usually). Candy is your surest bet, and it’s usually cheaper than the bulk packages of lotion or bubble bath that you buy from a big box store.

You have two options: you can buy your candy or make your candy. Or, I guess, you can buy candy, open them and then place them in a custom holder, which I guess would make that three options. If you choose to buy your candy, but it in bulk and give your guests a variety of it. Truffles are usually a good bet as they are classy enough to be a parties treat but also cheap enough to buy in bulk. Chocolate covered hazelnut candies are always popular, as are M&Ms (which you can get customized now), and chocolate covered raisins. If chocolate is not your thing, you can go with hard candies, licorice or hard caramels.

Making candy is probably a lot easier then you might think, especially chocolate. All you need to do for a custom chocolate favor is melt chocolate chips over a double broiler, place them in a mold (which you can get at any baking supply store) and then freeze. You can then wrap them yourself and attach a cute personalized note. I guarantee these will go over better than any lotion or bubble bath ever will.

Baby Shower Favors

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

A baby shower is such a special occasion—a celebration of new life, with the future new mom usually surrounded by the people most dear to her. One great way to be sure your guests know how much they mean to Mama-to-be, and to help the memory of your shower live on, is to send attendees home with a little something just for them—a baby shower favor!

Baby shower favors are a wonderful way to thank your guests for attending your shower, but these days there are so many great favor ideas out there it can be a bit overwhelming to choose the perfect one. Luckily, SimplyBabyStuff.com makes the process much easier for you by offering a wide range of favors all in one convenient place.

Perfect Party Favors: Cookie Pops!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

cookiepop_5In my opinion, if there’s one thing a baby shower should have (other than a Mama-to-be, of course), it’s plenty of good food—it is a celebration after all! And some of my favorite shower treats are of the sweet, indulgent variety. Give me a fluffy piece of cake or a gooey caramel roll, and I’m a happy girl.

These beautiful (and surprisingly simple to make) party favors fit that bill perfectly: crunchy sweet cookies covered in creamy chocolate, all wrapped up for me to take home?!? Yes, please!

(These make perfect treats for any special occasion—baby showers, wedding showers, birthdays…Tuesdays. You know, the important things. And they can easily be made even more special by adding one of these fantastic personalized sticker labels or a custom die-cut tag  to each package.)

Cookie Pops

1 package chocolate sandwich cookies (Double-Stuff work the best)

1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips or other melting chocolate

1 package lollipop sticks (purchase where candy making supplies are sold)

1 package small cellophane bags (purchase where candy making supplies are sold)

Chopped nuts, candy sprinkles, shredded coconut, or any other decoration you like

1. Press one lollipop stick through the center of each cookie—do this with care, go slowly, and gently re-press the cookie together afterward to be sure the stick stays in place. Lay them all out on a wax paper-lined tray, and put the tray of cookies in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes (this will help the chocolate adhere to the cookies when you dip them.)

2. Melt your chocolate according to the package directions, and place it in a tall container such as a glass liquid measuring cup (this will make it easier to dip the cookies.)

3. Dip each chilled cookie into the chocolate, using a spoon to be sure the cookie is entirely coated. Shake the cookie a bit to remove any excess chocolate, and return the dipped cookie to the wax paper. Because the cookies are cold, you’ll want to work quickly—dip a few cookies, then add your toppings if you’re using them, then dip a few more, top them, etc. until they are all dipped and topped. Reheat your chocolate as needed, taking care not to scorch it. Return the pan of dipped cookies to the refrigerator to harden.

4. Place each cookie into a cellophane bag, and tie a ribbon around the stick and the open end of the bag to seal them up. Remember, this is a great time to add a personalized label or tag!

And, you’re done! All that’s left is to sit back smile as your guests declare you a hero for creating such tasty, beautiful treats.
